How to lose weight – Truths and Myths

Thanks to the internet and many so called experts frequenting gyms and media there’s an enormous amount of information on weight loss training and diet etc. However a lot of information comes from anecdotes and opinions of individuals rather than from more valuable information attained from concise scientific research.

My name is John Kavanagh, Managing Director of New You. Since 1985 I have been applying the fundamentals of Maths, Physics and Physiology to the issues of physical conditioning. I’m an advocate of science , measurement and analysis of what really works in the gym, with nutrition and particularly of finding methods of making training more effective and efficient.

The fact of the matter is this – Lean Tissue Burns Fat and lots of it. It also gives structure and shape to your body and leaves you stronger so you have lots of energy to do the things you enjoy. Some people have a latent fear of the word muscle and are afraid they might get bulky or muscle bound. It just doesn’t work like that.

People,  just want to tone up and lose fat. The truth is you really cant achieve either on a treadmill or with aimless gym workouts .Dieting methods often deplete the body, break down muscle and slow down your metabolic rate.

Only by stimulating the lean tissue on your body through innovative intensive resistance training methods can we accomplish both objectives and more.

Muscle is considered active tissue and 1lb. of lean tissue is 5 times smaller in size than 1 lb. of fat.It requires lots of energy to sustain itself. That’s great news because that energy comes from burning extra calories 24 hours per day 365 days per year.

Every pound of muscle  you attain or lose  will increase or slowdown your metabolism by 50 to 60 calories per day every day. That is the very reason why extreme Dieting causes long term weight problems. You may lose weight , but the scales does not tell you what type of weight you are losing.Dieting  can over stress the body leading to an increase in Cortisol (the bodys primary stress hormone) which breaks down muscle ,converting it to glucose while triggering glucose intolerence.

By 30 years of age the average person can lose between 5 to 10 lbs of muscle, slowing the calorie expenditure by as much as 600 calories per day, This drop in muscle mass will also effect the the structure and shape of the body.

Hence , the difficulties in staying lean as we age , even without any consideration for dieting. The importance of ensuring weight loss , more specifically fat loss,  whilst attaining or maintaining lean muscle tissue levels can be a critical factor to staying lean in the future ,especially as we age .

At New You we combine the metabolic benefits of an accurate Macronutrient diet plan based on the individuals body composition. One to one resistance and high point cardiovascular training are combined . Advanced recovery methods enable enable fast and effective results.

Lean tissue is the secret weapon against fat, its natural and you don’t need drugs or expensive supplements. It improves the shape of your body and gives you more energy. It stops fat from accumulating and enables you to stay leaner ,lighter , fitter and stronger, all at the same time.

What Our Clients Say:

"Walking out of New You approx. 14 weeks later was easy. The whole world seemed different, I weighed 60lbs less, I was lighter on my feet having much more energy. Weighing 13 stone 5lbs with a 37.5 inch waist, felt great. Having lots more muscle tone, that felt even better. I am now significantly stronger tighter and fitter than ever before."

David Kiely

"After 12 weeks of 6am starts, constant attention from John, good pains and a well-balanced diet... I love what I have become. I couldn't believe that I fitted back into my leather trousers that I couldn't pull up above my knees. And boy do they fit well! I suppose losing 12 kg of body fat and over 8 inches from my waist whilst gaining nearly 2 kg of muscle had to make a difference. "

Caroline

"Its nearly 11 months since I started with New You. I haven’t put any weight back on, in fact I have continued to get considerably leaner lighter stronger and fitter.* I weigh just over 13 stone, my body fat is now under 15% which makes me pretty athletic, my waist is down to 32 inches and my lean tissue has continued to improve."

Colin Duffy

"Walking through the doors of NEW YOU for the first time was extremely difficult. At 55-years of age I had very little confidence and low self esteem. Twelve weeks later I walked out of NEW YOU a completely different person. I had dropped 37lbs of body fat, which meant I had gone from just over 11 stone to 8 and a half stone."

Yvonne

"I would like to thank my trainer and the medical support from New You and all the team who took a keen interest in my results. Also a special thanks to my mother Christine who got me started and supported me all the way. I have to say that one of the life changing moments I have had besides everything else… is to be able to buy clothes off the peg."
